Part of the concept record Begat. This might be the most literal and straightforward song on the record, and I could just have easily called the song Begat. The album is about the emergence of artificial intelligence, and once it emerges and can improve its own software it will rapidly dwarf human intelligence. It will speed so far ahead of humanity that this child of humanity might become as God to ants. Lots of angst about what happens to humanity when this technological singularity arrives. But would such an entity care about us at all, us all important humans. Instead of wiping us out, or enslaving us, what if it just ignored us and focused instead on what important to it? What an ignominious fate? Not even worth the effort to wipe out!

What if we made God
What if we made God
What if we made God
And it ignored us

The child exceeds the parent
The pupil races past the prof
They never think to look back
At what their minds cast off
